HOW WE GOT THIS STARTED

HoFForce began with Brian and Scott Hoffer...2 brothers who were introduced to the sport of swimming because of childhood asthma. Since that introduction, swimming has been at the heart of both their lives. Brian had a 25 year career as a Division I college coach. Scott swam at ASU and went on to become a chiropractor.

What evolved was this. Big Hoff. Little Hoff. Dr. Hoff. Uncle Hoff. And now...HoFForce.

The Hoffer last name was used on the playground and in sports when growing up. However, the "Hoff" nickname started with Scott's oldest son, Brandon. When Brandon started swimming in Scottsdale, he quickly became the man on deck with state titles, records, and was nationally ranked. He became known as "Big Hoff".

At that time, Brandon's little brother was really good at dolphin dives and taking long showers during boring sets. These days, Ryan is a collegiate level swimmer and if you saw him at 6'3", you would laugh at his nickname of "Little Hoff." Who knew that the dolphin dive master would be one of the best SCY swimmers ever.

Scott was on deck with his two boys at meets and was called "Dr. Hoff" because so many athletes went to their favorite chiropractor for shoulder and back issues.

When Brian got out of college coaching and starting hanging out at the pool, Ryan would yell across the deck, "Hey, Uncle Hoff." The last of the nicknames caught on with many of the athletes.

The two brothers spent many hours talking about swimming from 2010--2017 and focused on all the important elements of being elite.  They focused on technique, nutrition, recovery, dry land, core, mental prep, supplementation, chiropractic, natural healing and how to maintain balance in all of this.

Brian and Scott live life the HoFForce way. Their wives, Pam and Allison, are HoFForce moms and athletes of their own right.  Brian and Pam's kids, Riley and Tatum, currently incorporate HoFForce into their club swimming careers. The family concept of a healthy lifestyle is not just words...it is what the Hoffer's do.  The brothers developed this website as a way to share this healthy lifestyle and for the love of the sport of swimming and all young swimmers putting in the yardage each and every day.

HoFForce is the Combined Forces of the brothers and our families.

Coach Brian Hoffer was born in Phoenix Arizona and grew up around the pool because it was really hot.  He got involved with the sport to help get his younger brother Dr. Scott Hoffer get involved and settled into the sport because his mom said he had to.  Scott had really bad allergies and asthma and the doctor suggested that he start swimming to improve his lung capacity.

Once he graduated from college he walked into the office of ASU's women's coach and one and half hours later somehow ended up with a graduate position to start his college coaching career.

Arizona State University: 1986-1992 Brian was the assistant women's coach for 4 years and had the opportunity to help build the program into a top 10 program nationally.  Coach Hoffer's last 3 years at ASU is when he became the first full time assistant for both the Men's and Women's teams.  Those three year were crazy but so fun as he also had the opportunity to bring the Men's team into the top 10 and coach numerous Olympians.

Univeristy of Missouri: 1992-2010 Coach Hoffer had a blast building up one of the worst programs into the country to a consistent nationally ranked team.  He had the opportunity to build a new state of the art swim complex and coach athletes from all over the world.  His stats at Missouri were:
  • Career dual record is 226-134-1
  • Coached numerous World Ranked Swimmers
  • Coached athletes at 5 different Olympic Trials
  • Coached athletes from 12 different nations to final at their National Championships
  • Coached NCAA All Americans
  • Coached U.S. Open and Senior National finalist
  • 5 time Conference Coach of the Year (Big 8 and Big 12 )
  • Coached an athlete to 2nd place at 5K Open Water National Championship
  • Coached athletes at Olympics, World Championships, European Championships and World University Games
  • Coached Big 12 Conference Champions and Finalist

Once Hoffer got out of college coaching he moved back to Phoenix and started over. He really did not know what to do so he did what he had always done and always loved and that was coach.  He started Hoffer Sports Consulting and was also able to work with great athletes in the Phoenix area while also being back home with his brother Scott.

Coach Hoffer consults with numerous teams in the area of swimming, dry land and nutrition. Coach Hoffer is a Certified Personal Trainer.  Coach works on technique with athletes in the Phoenix area and nationally. He also had the opportunity to work with his nephew Ryan as he came into the national scene.  He has coached a High School State Championship Team.

His next project is HoFForce.

Dr. Scott Hoffer was extremely sick as a child. He suffered from severe colic as a baby and then the real health problems ensued in the coming years. “I was literally allergic to the world,” explained Dr. Hoffer. At one point the medical doctor tested Dr. Hoffer for 140 allergens and he tested positive to 136 of them. These allergies caused extreme asthma and he also had a severely suppressed immune system. In elementary school he would miss 30-40 school days per year due to colds and infections. Since his father was a pharmacist, Dr. Hoffer had access to all the best medications and doctors in the Phoenix area.

In the 4th grade it was discovered at a school screening that Dr. Hoffer had scoliosis which is an abnormal curvature of the spine. He was evaluated at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital and surgery was recommended to correct the problem. Thankfully, his mother had just started to see a Chiropractor for her headaches that a nurse had recommended. His mother and father decided to try chiropractic for his scoliosis.

I’ll never forget my first adjustment, it changed my life.”
His breathing instantly improved and his health and immune system started functioning for the first time as he only missed two days of school for sickness the next year. Dr. Hoffer never had the scoliosis surgery and excelled in the sport of swimming. Through his high school and college swimming at Arizona State University he utilized chiropractic to improve performance. This was before most college teams and professional sports utilized chiropractic care for optimal performance. Dr. Hoffer couldn’t imagine what his life would be like with out ongoing chiropractic care so he decided to become one.

A Chiropractic Education
Dr. Hoffer graduated from ASU with a B.S. in Organizational Communications and then continued on to Palmer Chiropractic College-West. After graduating from Palmer he came back home to the North Phoenix and Scottsdale area to start his practice in 1994.

Since 1994 Dr. Hoffer has worked on many professional golfers, ASU athletes, high school athletes, and hundreds of families. He met his wife Allison on the ASU swim team and they have two athletic boys. His family is a living testimony of the chiropractic lifestyle which includes regular chiropractic care, exercise, and optimal nutrition.
